Are you looking to gain more knowledge about firearms? Are you hesitant in signing up for classes because you feel like you might be the only female? Are you self-conscious about shooting? Well, She-Shooters is the place for you!!!! We are an all female group with all different levels of skill and knowledge with firearms. We welcome all levels of experience to our meetings on the 3rd Wednesday of every month. We cover a different topic each month from Maryland Law to Practical Concealed Carry to Situational Awareness to Less Lethal Applications and everything in between. Our mission is to support and enhance the lives of women in the areas of firearms and personal defense. Our vision is to build confidence among women so they can protect themselves and their loved ones. Stephanie and I do this by sharing our knowledge and experiences in a relaxed & safe environment, keeping it entertaining as well. We would love to have you join us!!!!
“Women must not depend upon the protection of man, but must be taught to protect herself.” — Susan B. Anthony
Happy May and a heartfelt Happy Mother’s Day!
May this month be filled with love, appreciation, and special moments that honor the incredible strength, care, and warmth of mothers everywhere. ‘To the world you are a mother, but to your family you are the world.’ — Unknown. Whether you are a mom, a grandmom, an aunt, a sister, a godmother, or an awesome friend, keep shining, keep nurturing, and never forget how deeply you’re appreciated.
Each month I am filled with gratitude seeing not only returning She-Shooters, but new She-Shooters! Our community is excited to have each and every one of you! Thank you to all who attended our April meeting. We discussed the history of rifles and the transitions over time to make them what they are today. We learned what the “AR” really means in AR15 (“ArmaLite Rifle”) and how this rifle platform is the most popular among civilians in the United States. We had different rifles out on the range during our live fire session for our She-Shooters to try out. I encourage you to challenge yourself and try out some rifles. For those of you that tried, I am so proud of you and I hope it put to rest some of those crazy myths that you may have heard or fears you were holding. Don’t forget to always challenge yourself and come to your own conclusions!
Our topic for May is Range Etiquette & Range Gear. This is an oldie but a goodie and serves as a reminder so we don’t become complacent. You may be wondering, is range etiquette a thing? Yes, it is! We want to make sure no matter what range you go to, you are fully versed and polished. Think of this meeting as Beth’s & Stephanie’s Gun Range Finishing School: Armed & Refined. Also included will be a review of firearm safety on the range. This will lead into a discussion on Range Gear…what to wear and what’s in your range bag. Be ready for a “show & tell”. We want to to see what goodies are in your range bag. Be sure to join us…we look forward to seeing you on May 21st at 6:00 pm.
Remember to use your She-Shooter coupons (don’t have one, come to a meeting) and remember EVERY Wednesday, from open to close, is EMPOWERED WOMEN WEDNESDAYS at FreeState Gun Range! Ladies shoot for half price, $5.00 gets you unlimited firearm rentals, one free target, and no charge for eye/ear protection rental!! Work on those skills and save money…it doesn’t get much better than that!!!
Monthly Drills:
Tap/Rack Drill: You will need snap caps for this drill. Have someone else load your magazine with a mix of live rounds and snap caps. Load and make ready. Begin shooting maintaining all fundamentals. Surprise…you get a click and no bang. Tap, rack, get back on target, and continue shooting. Maintain trigger finger discipline when clearing your “malfunction”. Do as many times as you like at any distance.
Extend, Touch, Press Drill: You will need to place your target at 4-7 yards. Start at 4 if you’d like and then work up to 7 or farther. Load 5 rounds to start. Get in a good stance and get a proper grip. You will start at high compressed ready. Extend arms parallel to line of sight, both eyes open. Once on target, touch your trigger. Next, press trigger firing 1 round. Bring back to high compressed ready. Repeat for a total of 5 reps. The next set of reps you will fire 2 rounds at press (total of 10 rounds). For the final set of reps you will fire 3 rounds at press (total of 15 rounds). This drill will build your confidence, improve defensive accuracy, improve recoil control, and improve shooting speed. See video link for a demonstration https://youtu.be/yNQR65n9hVo?si=rgGU85NrllFiNzes
Weak Hand Pick Up: 2 rounds at different distances using any silhouette target placing all rounds center mass.
*** Place firearm on the bench in front of you with the muzzle pointed downrange. Place strong/dominant hand behind your back.
When ready, pick up firearm using weak hand only. Get sights on target and fire 2 shots. Repeat as much as you want.
