The Next Step
Lets take it to the Next Step……..
I decided that I should take the Next Step (NS) training class that the range offers so I will be able to explain the detail of the class to prospective students. All of my training up to this point has been one on one with the trainers, with the exception of the shotgun class,( what a great class!!!) The NS class is an extended training class for new shooters.
Both the private and NextStep (NS) classes have pros and cons. These will greatly depend on your personality. The NS class is a great class for extroverts. If you are a bit of an introvert, should opt for private training.
It can be fun to share your experience with others who also know nothing about handguns. Also, remember that you are not the only person who is new to this sport. Some people in the class will have some degree of fear when it comes to guns. If you opt for a private class it teaches the same basics, but it will just be you.
In the NS class they will teach the safety rules and how to safely operate the gun before you even touch a loaded gun. One of the most important rules is to treat all guns as if they are loaded. Most accidents in the home are caused by someone not checking the chamber.
The first gun that you hold will not be real; it will be a hard plastic replica, but feels like a gun. It will be like playing Cowboys and Indians. You will be taught how to hold the gun and squeeze the trigger. Once the instructor feels confident with you, he will replace the replica with a real gun. He will go through everything again, without bullets of course. Then you will go to the range and practice firing the handgun.
One suggestion that I will offer is; if you know how to hold a gun and shot it, you should not be in this class or you may be board. I was board, but I did pick up a few things.
